LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer/questioning) people face a particular set of challenges - personally, interpersonally, culturally, and spiritually.  Not the least of these challenges are growing up in a homophobic/transphobic family environment and homophobic/transphobic culture.

There is also an entire queer culture, complete with its own unique history, values, gifts, and relational dynamics.
